Uganda & HIV/AIDS
In the whole of Africa there are already 11 million AIDS orphans--children who lost their mother, father or both their parents. Especially in Uganda, AIDS has claimed many victims. In the mid-1990s, 18 percent of the population had HIV/AIDS. With the help of strong public health campaigns, this figure subsequently decreased, and in 2001 6.1 percent was living with the disease. The cumulative number of HIV/AIDS deaths since the epidemic began is estimated at almost one million people. Mainly the productive categories of the population is affected: those of child-bearing age and economically active. At present there are about two million AIDS orphans in Uganda. One out four families has an orphan in their home. The main problem is money for education for this group of children
